The city of Star is located in northwest Ada County, Idaho, and some of its territory extends into neighboring Canyon County. 5,793 people were counted in the population in 2010, compared to 1,795 in 2000. Travelers using the schoolhouse's star to navigate east and west in the 19th century on their route to Middleton and Boise gave it its moniker. Star, Idaho was the name that stuck. It is now a fast expanding suburb of Boise, and it shares schools with the Middleton and West Ada school districts.
