Approximately seven miles (11 km) east of the city on the present-day US-20 heading towards Fairfield, Rattlesnake Station, a stagecoach stop on the Overland Stage Line, was where Mountain Home's first post office was located. The post office was relocated to the city's current location by moving downhill and to the west after the Oregon Short Line Railroad was added in 1883.
